Former Ghana national team defender Isaac Vorsah has urged the Black Stars to go for the kill when qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup resumes in September.

The four-time African champions revived their chances of qualifying for the global football showpiece with two consecutive wins against Chad and Madagascar last month. Ghana pummeled Chad by a 5-0 score at the Accra Sports Stadium in match day five with the sixth fixture against Madagascar ending 3-0 for Ghana at the Al Hoceima Stadium in Morocco.

Vorsah, 36, who played for Ghana at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, believes the current squad needs hard work to make it to USA, Canada and Mexico next year.

"We have to work harder as we want to qualify. We have qualified already for me but we have to do the work well, so that we can also go and watch some. So that we can be happy that as Ghanaians we have also come for the world cup," Vorsah told BAC Sports.

Ghana are currently top of Group I, leading the table on 15 points with four games to spare. Vorsah, who formerly played for German side TSG Hoffenheim, was a member of Ghana’s squad that finished second at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

The former Asante Kotoko centre-back admits to missing football after injuries forced him into early retirement.

“I have blood running through me. Sometimes we miss it [playing football], we miss it very very much but because of injuries, we have to be out. I have done a lot [for Ghana] and God almighty has helped me through my career because I never believed I could go this far in my career,” Vorsah told BAC Sports.

Vorsah is capped 40 times featuring in four major tournaments for Ghana including three Africa Cup of Nations in 2010, 2012 and 2023 as well as the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
