Nigerian international Victor Boniface is set to stay at Bayer Leverkusen amidst a transfer rumor linking the striker with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. The reigning Bundesliga champions left Boniface out of their match day squad for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash against Czech side Sparta Prague.
Die Werkself coach Xabi Alonso on Tuesday hinted Al Nassr and Bayer are negotiating over a transfer of Boniface. But new developments on Wednesday forced the 24-year-old striker to stay in Europe. Al Nassr have since shifted their focus to Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran and halted their pursuit of Boniface.
After their Champions League win over Sparta Prague, Alonso stated that Boniface is likely staying. "He will train again tomorrow (Thursday). I believe he is staying with us."
Boniface has bagged six league goals in ten Bundesliga appearances so far in an injury plagued 2024-25 season. He was instrumental in Leverkusen's historic Bundesliga winning season, scoring fourteen goals and providing eight assists in twenty-three appearances.
