Tanzania giants Simba SC have received a major boost in their quest to qualify from the group stage following the clearance of Elie Mpanzu to represent them in Caf Confederation Cup matches this season.

Mpanzu arrived at the Wekundu wa Msimbazi in September, 2024, from AS Vita Club and signed a three-year contract. His transfer happened when the transfer window was already closed and it was not possible for the player to represent Simba.

Simba Media Officer Ahmed Ally has confirmed the availability of the Democratic Republic of Congo winger for the club’s matchday four fixture against the Tunisian outtit at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi Stadium on Sunday. Simba have already arrived in Tunis in readiness for the clash.

“I have good news for the Simba fans back home,” Ally told Pan-Africa Football. “We have officially managed to register Elie (Mpanzu) for Caf matches. We had only managed to secure his services for the local matches and he has so far played in the last three matches where he has shown his qualities.

“He was not eligible to play in Caf matches because the transfer window for Caf was only opened on January 1, 2025. When we were welcoming the New Year, people celebrating the New Year, we also managed to register Mpanzu for the Caf assignments. We are happy to announce to Simba fans that Mpanzu’s registration for international matches has been completed and he is now cleared to play for Simba.

“The good news is that we travelled with Mpanzu to Tunis and he will be available to play if the coach decides to play him. He will be in the matchday squad that will play against Sfaxien, it will be his first game in Simba colours in the Caf matches.”

Simba are currently sitting third in Group A with six points. They have managed two wins, no draw and suffered one defeat. They will be keen to seal a double over Sfaxien, whom they beat 2-1 in the first round meeting at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
