A frustrating season for Moroccan giants Wydad AC and Raja CA continued on Saturday after the two fierce rivals played to a 1-1 draw in the Botola Pro.
El Houssine Rahimi, brother of Morocco national team forward Soufiane, equalized for Raja in the 27th minute. Wydad had taken the lead nine minutes earlier when Mohamed Rayhi converted from the penalty spot for his 10th league goal of the campaign.
Rulani Mokwena's Wydad had more at stake with a CAF Champions League spot still in reach and seized the initiative. A well crafted attack down the left wing led to a cross that found Oussama Zemraoui who was tripped in the penalty area for a penalty kick. Rayhi made no mistake, putting his low spot kick just beyond the reach of Raja goalkeeper El Mehdi Al Harrar.
But as seen throughout this season, Wydad failed to make the most of their opportunities and were forced to share the points with their rivals. All but out of the race for a place in CAF club competition, Raja increased their level and Rahimi finished his 7th goal of the season from a cross by Sabir Bougrine.
Wydad remain in third place on 44 points, one back of second placed AS FAR who can increase their lead in second place if they can defeat Union Touarga away from home on Sunday. Raja are six points behind their rivals in 7th place.
