Morocco's top division Botola Pro returned to action with the 19th round over the weekend. Most notably, giants Wydad Casablanca continued their rise towards contention for the league title with a 2-0 victory at Difaa El Jadida.
It was a decisive victory for The Red Castle who moved ahead through a penalty kick conversion from Mohamed Rayhi. The 30-year-old Dutch-Moroccan attacker acquired from Saudi second tier side Al Jabalain continues to thrive with his sixth goal in the last six matches for Wydad.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Cassius Mailula, on loan from Canadian club Toronto FC, completed the scoring after the hour mark. A brilliant pass from Ismail Moutaraji sent Mailula behind the DHJ defense for a routine finish and Wydad were beyond reach.
Wydad move into third place, overtaking Maghreb Fez who drew 2-2 at Hassania Agadir. Hamid Ahadad completed a sensational turnaround in the final quarter of the match, equalizing deep into second half stoppage time after Mohamed El Badaoui pulled Fez within a goal in the 83rd minute.
Elsewhere there were victories for COD Meknes, IR Tanger, Union Touarga and Renaissance Zemamra who defeated Chabab Mohammedia 1-0. RCAZ continue to maintain their impressive pace in second position, a surprise performance from the club who are only two points back of league leaders RS Berkane but have played three more matches. Ishak Zidani scored the winning goal against Chabab in the first half.
