After a disastrous 2023-24 season that saw them fail to qualify for CAF club competition this season, Wydad AC are attempting to regain their prestige with mixed results. WAC did take a step forward over the weekend with a decisive 3-0 victory over Jeuness Sportive Soualem to move into third place for the time being.
Hosts WAC jumped on the visitors from the Berrechid province early and did not show mercy. Oussama Zemraoui scored inside the opening five minutes and former Morocco under-20 national team midfielder Mehdi Moubarik doubled the lead from an assist by South African attacker Cassius Mailula soon after the half hour mark.
Mauritania national team attacker Sidi Bouna Amar completed the victory for Wydad who moved past Maghreb Fez (MAS) into third position. MAS continued their inconsistent form with a 0-1 home defeat to mid-table club Olympique Safi. The surprise story of the campaign this season, Renaissance Zemamra, also struggled with a 0-0 draw for the current holders of second place.
RS Berkane remain at the top despite an absence from league play due to CAF Confederation Cup duties with three points separating them from Renaissance Zemamra. Results from the weekend and highlights from three matches are below.
