Former Botswana Premier League champions, Township Rollers, have sacked coach Mogotsi Mpote barely seven games into the new season.
In a telephone interview with Pan-Africa Football, the former Botswana’s Zebras trainer confirmed that Rollers have terminated his contract.
“I have parted ways with the team amicably. The owners of the team are saying they are not happy with my performance. I have played seven league games, lost one game, won four and drawn twice and we are in third position,” Mpote, sounding calm, said.
In a statement released on Monday evening, Rollers, who are also called Popa, did not give the reasons behind the release of Mpote.
“Township Rollers hereby announces that the club has amicably parted ways with head coach Mogomotsi 'Teenage' Mpote,” the statement reads.
“The club thanks Mr. Mpote for the work he put into the role, and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
Mpote returned to the Gaborone-based side early this year after having won four league titles with them seven seasons ago.
Popa, who lie four points behind leaders Tafic FC, have since made assistant coach Innocent Morapedi the caretaker while the search for a substantive handler begins in earnest.
Rollers are the record 16-time winners of the Botswana league whose holders are Jwaneng Galaxy FC.
