Brighton and Hove Albion coach Fabian Hurzeler has hailed Ghanaian Tariq Lamptey’s impact after the defender's goal rescued a point for the Seagulls in a two-all draw with Aston Villa FC on Monday.

Reflecting on the game, Hurzeler told Brighton media that when Lamptey plays he always delivers, adding that his side deserved more than the fifth draw in the last seven league games.

Commenting on Lamptey, the Sea Gulls coach said he was happy for the wing-back’s offensive and defensive qualities at Villa Park.

“When he plays, he always does well. I am happy that he scored but for me, it is more important how he defended and did a great job,” he said.

Lamptey, returning to form after struggling with injuries, said he thought the visitors deserved more than a point.

“We’d like to have nicked it at the end, but after we got back on level terms it felt like a fair result,” he said after the 2-2 draw,” he said.

“For the goal, I just arrived on the edge of the box and it fell nicely for me and it was great to see it hit the back of the net. The changes we made helped. We know we have quality players who can come off the bench and make a difference.”

Lamptey scored Brighton’s leveler after Villa thought they had bagged maximum points, as they led 2-1 courtesy of Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers’ strikes.

It was the show of Africans as Ivorian Simon Adingra had put Albion in front with a 12th minute goal before the hosts responded.
