Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Jordan Opoku has urged the club’s current coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to build a strong squad that is capable of winning more games in all competitions.
The Porcupine Warriors have regained their mojo in the Ghana Premier League – collecting two straight wins against Aduana Stars and arch rivals Hearts of Oak in weeks 12 and 13 respectively. The two consecutive wins were Kotoko’s first two in as many as eight league games.
Jordan Opoku, who had three spells with the Porcupine Warriors, spoke to the media to give his views on his former club:
“I watched Kotoko’s match against Heart of Lions in Obuasi and I think sometimes the urgency of the players is not the best. Because the way the players are supposed to react when they lose the ball is very bad because when they lose the ball, the reaction to chase the ball is not the best. They have to be very effective.”
“(Ogum) should build a strong squad because the supporters will demand that the team wins. But if you are not patient sometimes, anger will make you say things that will put the club out of place,” Opoku added.
Jordan Opoku’s three spells with Kotoko were between 2006 and 2011 and later in 2013 and 2015 and finally between 2018 and 2019. The record Ghana Premier League holders currently sit 6th on the league table with 21 points – two points better than rivals Hearts of Oak.
