BUL FC left back Nicholas Mwere has publicly apologized following a chaotic Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinal clash that saw his side crash out to Kitara FC at Royal Park Butema in controversial fashion.

The heated encounter, marred by indiscipline, saw referee Henry Musisi dish out three red cards including two to BUL players. Mwere and teammate Jerome Kiirya were both sent off, with Mwere receiving a second yellow before appearing to shove the referee. In a shocking turn, BUL captain Walter Ochora who seemed to push the referee to the ground escaped dismissal and continued playing.

“It’s a moment where no word can explain what happened in our game against Kitara FC, and I’m here to pass my apology to match official Musisi, the fans, FUFA, and the game of football,” Mwere posted on his official X account, expressing remorse for his actions.

The tension extended to the technical area as BUL head coach Abbey Kikomeko also lost his temper, confronting the officials after the final whistle in visible frustration over the result and refereeing decisions.

Kitara, despite also going a man down after the dismissal of midfielder Titus Ssematimba, managed to advance to the semifinals. However, Ssematimba will now miss both legs of the semis due to suspension.

The incident has caught the attention of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), which has since launched a full investigation into the events. With multiple incidents of misconduct, more suspensions and disciplinary actions are expected.
