The giant striker showed off his strength in the 16th minute to receive and turn in the penalty box to open the scoring. Mert Komur won it later on for 10th placed Augsburg with a 90th minute goal.
French-born Essende, who broke out last season with Portuguese top flight side Vizela (15 goals in 31 appearances), now has 10 goals in 30 appearances between the Bundesliga and the cup in his debut season in Germany. Augsburg will host Eintracht Frankfurt next Sunday.
