The possibility of UEFA Champions League football next season still remains for Borussia Dortmund following Sunday's 3-2 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Guinean superstar Serhou Guirassy was at the center of the action once again with a goal and an assist during a late first half surge from the hosts.
After Ko Itakura put visitors Gladbach ahead in the 24th minute, Guirassy ignited a spectacular conclusion to the first half for Dortmund who scored three goals in the final ten minutes. The Guinean finished from a cross to level in the 41st minute before his shot was spilled for Daniel Svensson to head in the rebound on Dortmund's third goal.
Kevin Stoger's penalty kick before the hour mark pulled a goal back for Gladbach but Dortmund were able to hold on. Dortmund are now in 7th place on 45 points, four points back of RB Leipzig in 4th place who hold the final Champions League spot in the Bundesliga.
This season's Champions League quarterfinalists are also two points back of the final European place, where 6th place Mainz hold the UEFA Europa Conference League place.
Guirassy continues to do his part for the club. He has 29 goals and 8 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. His 16 Bundesliga goals leave him third on the top scorer list, eight goals behind Bayern Munich talisman Harry Kane.
