The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the list of African football stars who have been invited to attend the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony.
CAF’s annual ceremony to honor the best in African football will take place tomorrow, Monday, December 15, in Marrakech, Morocco.
The 2024 CAF Awards will be held at the Palais des Congrès starting at 19:00 local time (18:00 GMT)
Here is the official list of stars, as revealed on CAF’s official website:
1- Seydou Keita: The former Mali midfielder earned over 100 caps for his country and was a key part of FC Barcelona’s dominant team between 2008 and 2012, winning every major title, including two UEFA Champions League trophies.
2- Mohamed Zidan: Zidan was part of Egypt’s golden generation, winning back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2008 and 2010. He also claimed consecutive Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and 2012, exemplifying the skill and flair of Egyptian football.
3- Victor Wanyama: A cornerstone of Kenyan football for over 15 years, Wanyama played a pivotal role in helping Kenya qualify for the 2019 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
4- Caster Semenya: The double Olympic 800-metres champion will bring her iconic status from outside the football world to the event, adding a touch of stardom.
5- Joseph Antoine Bell: The legendary Cameroon goalkeeper represented the Indomitable Lions in three FIFA World Cups during his illustrious 17-year international career. He remains one of Africa’s greatest goalkeepers.
6- Portia Modise: Representing women’s football, the South African striker scored an incredible 101 goals for her country establishing herself as a legend of the game.
7- Alberta Sackey and Genoveva Añonman: Former Ghana star Alberta Sackey and Equatorial Guinea forward Genoveva Añonman will also represent African women’s football at the ceremony.
8- Fabrice Akwa: The Angolan captain led his country to their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2006, scoring the decisive goal against Rwanda that secured Angola’s spot in Germany.
