Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has described their away CAF Confederation Cup Group B game against CD Lunda Sul on Sunday as a cup final.
The Cape Town-based club will meet the Angolans at Estadio Nacional 11 de Novembro on Sunday, 11th December 2024 while gunning for a first win after two consecutive defeats.
Ahead of the match, the South African mentor noted that only a win would revive the Betway Premiership side’s quarterfinal hope. “Our next game is a cup final. We have to get points in back-to-back games then against Malian at home. It is not impossible. If we get a point or three against this team it is not impossible,” he said.
Barker also said he was approaching each game at a time considering the fixture jam.
“It all boils down to the following game. It will probably be beyond us if we don’t get anything from that game. so it becomes a cup final. Once you get to the second and last games, you have to assess where you are and how you approach it considering we will also be having league matches and maybe even the Nedbank Cup starting,” he added.
The Betway Premiership outfit is smarting from a home 1-3 loss to RB Berkane last weekend after debuting in the group stage of the continental competition with a 2-0 defeat to Stade Malien in Mali a fort night ago.
Lunda are third from bottom of the group with one point whereas the South Africans have no point. The match will be broadcast on SuperSport 208 & SABC Sport.
