Ahmed Magdy, the interim head coach of Zamalek's first football team, acknowledged the difficulty of their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup match against Al Masry scheduled for Sunday. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Magdy described Al Masry as a "respectable team" and highlighted the significance of the encounter.
“Our recent results against Al Masry have not been the best,” Magdy admitted. “We are currently striving for victory to take the lead in our group standings.”
The interim coach pledged to the fans: “We promise to deliver a strong performance and secure a win. The players understand the value of representing Zamalek, and everyone is fighting for the pride of the White Castle, despite the current challenges.”
Magdy emphasized the importance of playing with passion and dedication, especially since Zamalek is the reigning champion of the CAF Confederation Cup. “The team has the motivation to overcome obstacles, and while the match will be difficult, Zamalek has the experience and quality, with players like Omar Gaber, Abdullah El-Said, and Ahmed Mostafa 'Zizo,' among others, capable of achieving victory.”
He added, “Every team has strengths and weaknesses, but this match will be different. Both teams know each other very well, and small details, such as individual mistakes, will decide the outcome of the game.”
Magdy also highlighted the importance of fan presence at the stadium, saying, “The support of our fans is a significant positive factor. They constantly motivate the players and are like half of the team’s strength. We aim to make them happy.”
Zamalek captain Omar Gaber emphasized the significance of the upcoming match:
“Everyone understands the importance of this match, especially given the difficult circumstances the team is currently facing. Zamalek has experienced similar challenges in the past, and we must unite and stand together to overcome this match and secure victory.”
He added: “The match will largely determine the shape of the group standings, and we are counting on the presence of our fans to support us and help us make a significant impact on the game.”
Concluding his remarks, Gaber said: “The players are ready for the match despite the absences. Every player understands the value of representing Zamalek. There is a high level of focus within the team, especially considering the events surrounding us before the game. Our goal is to retain the CAF Confederation Cup title.”
Zamalek will host Al Masry on Sunday, at 4:00 PM GMT, at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, Egypt, in the third round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
