The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has formally rejected an appeal from the Guinea Football Federation (FGF) regarding a player eligibility dispute from the final round of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.
Guinea filed the appeal after losing 1-0 to Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, a result that qualified the Taifa Stars for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco at the expense of Guinea who missed out. The case of the West African nation arose after a Tanzanian player, Mashujaa FC central defender Ibrahim Ame, was substituted into the match in the 76th minute. Ame wore the number 26 but was listed on the submitted team sheet as number 24.
CAF decided not to punish the Tanzania Football Federation or disqualify the East African nation from participating at the AFCON finals, set to take place in Morocco from late December to mid-January next year. CAF ruled the appeal as "admissible in form...but unfounded", prompting the Guinean federation to announce that it will seek more details on the reasons for rejection and take the next step in the appeal process.
