CAF increases prize money for CHAN 2024


The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced an increase in prize money for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) that will be co-hosted by Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. The tournament will begin on February 1.


The winner of CHAN 2024 will now receive USD $3.5 million, reflecting a 75% increase compared to the previous edition. In addition, the total prize pool for the tournament has risen to USD 10.4 million, marking a 32% increase overall.


CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe highlighted the importance of the CHAN in the development of African football:


“The CHAN is an important competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players. It will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions. This competition is part of our strategy of investing in African football and making it appealing and attractive to football fans, TV viewers, sponsors, partners, and other stakeholders in Africa and worldwide.”


Tournament Schedule


The CHAN 2024 is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, 1 February 2025, with the final set to take place on Friday, 28 February 2025.


Qualified Teams


So far, 17 teams have secured their places in the tournament:


Hosts: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda


Other Qualified Teams: Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar


Two additional teams will be determined in the coming weeks to complete the 19-team lineup.


CHAN 2024 Draw


The official draw for the TotalEnergies CHAN 2024 will take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, at 20:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
