ASEC Mimosas head coach Julien Chevalier put the blame on himself for ASEC's 0-1 quarterfinal first leg defeat in Abidjan against RS Berkane on Wednesday. The Ivorian outfit squandered golden opportunities to punish the newly crowned Moroccan champions as the French coach lamented on the loss.
Chevalier stated he is the one that should be blamed for the frustrating defeat. “We can put the loss on the coach and spare my players. I totally agree with this. Nevertheless, we do not listen to irrelevant statements from nobody.”
Chevalier also stated the return leg in Morocco next week is still on with ASEC banking on their chances to progress. “We are not going to give up. It is still very possible to qualify for the semis.”
ASEC Mimosas last reached the Confederation Cup semifinals in the 2022/23 edition after beating Tunisian side US Monastir 2-0 on aggregate in the quarterfinals.
