For the first time in their history, South Africa's Stellenbosch FC are through to the knockout stages of a CAF club competition following Sunday's 2-0 CAF Confederation Cup victory over Malian giants Stade Malien. A first half penalty kick from Fawaaz Basadien was followed by the full back setting up Jayden Adams to double the lead before halftime in Durban.
Stellenbosch join last season's runners-up RS Berkane of Morocco in qualifying for the quarterfinals out of Group B. Berkane confirmed top spot in the group in the other Group B match played on Sunday, a 0-0 draw with Angola's CD Lunda Sul. The Angolan club dominated the match played in Luanda but could not find a way past the impenetrable RSB defense.
Berkane finish up at home against Stellenbosch next Sunday while Stade Malien conclude their campaign by hosting Lunda Sul in a dead rubber.
