Group C provided the lone moment of drama on the final day of the group stage at the CAF Confederation Cup after Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas secured a spot in the quarterfinals. Les Mimos defeated Botswana's Orapa United 4-0 in Abidjan but it was the result in the other Group C match that pushed ASEC through to the knockout stages.
Group winners USM Alger defeated Senegal's ASC Jaraaf 2-0 in Algiers, a result that allowed ASEC to overtake the Senegalese club. Ismail Belkacemi swept his powerful finish into the goal for USMA after a corner kick fell kindly to the forward in the 81st minute before Saadi Redouani scored close to full time.
ASEC and Jaraaf each finished on eight points but a superior head-to-head record left ASEC as the second placed team. ASEC lost to Jaraaf in Senegal (1-0) but defeated them by a superior margin in Abidjan (2-0) to have a superior goal difference in head-to-head matches. Célestin Ecua scored twice for Les Mimos in a dominant victory over last placed Orapa United who only had pride to play for.
