Algerian club USM Alger finally found the victory they wanted away from home in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday, defeating Group C foes Orapa United by a 2-1 score in Botswana. Goals from Sekou Gassama and Houssem Ghacha were enough against Orapa whose first goal of the group stage deep in second half stoppage time was too little too late.
USMA have clinched qualification for the quarterfinals with Sunday's result and only need to avoid defeat on the final day against Senegal's ASC Jaraaf to win Group C. Jaraaf kept their quarterfinal hopes alive with a 1-0 victory over Ivorian powerhouse ASEC Mimosas behind closed doors in Dakar.
Abdoulaye Oualy's first half header was enough for Jaraaf to move three points clear of ASEC but the task remains difficult to reach the quarterfinals. Jaraaf will need to either avoid defeat against USMA in Algeria next Sunday or receive help from Orapa United, who would need to draw or defeat ASEC in Abidjan for Jaraaf to advance if they lose to USMA.
