Both of Egypt's representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup are through to the knockout stages after Zamalek and Al Masry won in the final round of Group D play on Sunday. Already confirmed group winners Zamalek defeated Nigeria's Enyimba at home by a 3-1 score while Al Masry are the runners-up following a victory over Mozambican champions Black Bulls by the same score.
Al Masry needed to avoid defeat to advance but there was little suspense on the day. After failing to convert a penalty kick inside the opening fifteen minutes, Al Masry took the lead through Tunisian forward Fakhreddine Ben Youssef in the 22nd minute. The former Pyramids FC player then added two more goals before halftime to put the result beyond doubt against Black Bulls who found a consolation goal in the second half.
Enyimba, along with Black Bulls, needed a victory to keep their hopes of advancement alive but they offered little resistance to Zamalek. Mostafa Shalaby headed the hosts into the lead in Cairo and Seifeddine Jaziri capitalized on a comical error by the Enyimba goalkeeper to make it 2-0 early in the second half. Enyimba found a goal before the hour mark but Jaziri scored again late in the match.
