Zamalek established themselves as the sole leader of Group D in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday with a 1-0 victory in Cairo over fellow Egyptian club Al Masry. Star attacker Ahmed Sayed "Zizo" provided the moment of quality soon after the hour mark for the defending Confederation Cup champions who are now three points clear of Masry at the top of the group.
The hosts dominated the first half but were kept scoreless by the strong Al Masry defense which did excellently to hold out. However, after showing more ambition and creating some opportunities the visitors were caught out by a decisive Zamalek attack in the 64th minute when Zizo produced the moment of quality with a curling effort past Masry goalkeeper Mahmoud Gad.
Now Masry will need to worry about Mozambican club Black Bulls who continued to show their capabilities with a 3-0 home victory over Nigeria's Enyimba in Maputo. Two Nigerians, Rume Akporoh and Francis Ayuba, scored against the famous Nigerian club to give Black Bulls their first-ever win in the group stage of a CAF club competition. The Mozambican champions move level with Masry on four points while Enyimba continue to fall out of contention.
