Zamalek will be without Moroccan left back Mahmoud Bentayg for their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal first-leg match against South African side Stellenbosch.
The Egyptian club is going face Stellenbosch away on Wednesday, 2 April, at 13:00 GMT in the first leg of the competition’s quarterfinal stage. Bentayg was unable to travel with Zamalek to South Africa due to visa issues.
According to Egyptian journalist Mohamed Elgebaly, the Moroccan fullback did not obtain an entry visa because he lacks a work residency permit in Egypt, which required him to apply for the visa from Morocco.
This process would have necessitated the player’s departure to his home country, which ultimately did not happen. As a result, Bentayg remains in Egypt and will miss the first leg.
During the current season, Bentayg has featured in 23 matches for Zamalek across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
Earlier this month, Zamalek activated the purchase clause in Bentayg's loan deal from French side Saint-Étienne. He is now contracted with Zamalek until the end of the 2027/2028 season.
