Simba SC defender Che Fondoh Malone has come out to openly apologise to the fans following his blunder that enabled Bravos do Maquis to score an early goal in their 1-1 CAF Confederation Cup draw on Sunday.

In the Group A fixture at the 11 de Novembro Stadium in Talatona, Angola, Simba found themselves trailing with only 13 minutes played after Malone’s backpass intended to goalkeeper Moussa Camara was intercepted by the advancing Abednego Mosiatlhaga, who made no mistake by slotting the ball home.

However, the Cameroonian had to thank countryman Leonel Ateba, who levelled matters for Simba in the 68th minute after finishing off a low cross from Shomari Kapombe.

Malone has taken to his social media pages to express his remorse for the mistake and promised to improve in subsequent matches.

“I wish to apologize to the entire Simba family for costing them greatly on two game days. I take total responsibility for my mistakes and promise to work harder and do better in the days ahead. I’m truly sorry. Thank you fans for always encouraging me despite my disappointments,” wrote Malone.

Despite the mistake, the draw enabled Simba to qualify for the knock out stages of the competition while Bravos were eliminated. Simba have 10 points, placing them in second position, just behind CS Constantine, who claimed a 3-0 victory over CS Sfaxien in their match.
