Simba SC coach Fadlu Davids has revealed their plans to score four goals past Al Masry in the return leg of their CAF Confederation Cup at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday.

However, the South African coach said while they want to score four to qualify, they will have to be wary of the attacking threats posed by the Egyptian outfit, who won the first leg 2-0 at New Suez Stadium in Ismailia a fortnight ago.

According to Davids, Simba have worked on scoring goals, and as much as they need three to overturn the first leg defeat, their focus is to score more and stay solid at the back.

“Our approach to this game is to turn over the results, to qualify and we know we need two goals to get to penalties, we need three goals to qualify but very important in this match is to keep a clean sheet because if they do score one, we need to score four,” Davids told Pan-Africa Football. “We want to score early, and if we don’t score and it comes to half-time 0-0, or a goal behind then we have to put in other mechanisms to change the game.”

Davids continued: “We know their coach, in terms of their approach whole match, six shots against us in the first leg, two on target, the two shots on target they scored, I am sure if you say we had the stats and not 18 shots and seven on target, that was our stat for an away team but they got a 2-0 result.

We are definitely not going with the approach of getting two shots on target and scoring two, we will have the approach of trying to create as many scoring chances as possible and of course we have to be very wary with their counter attacking threat because they have good quality players, who can hurt you.

They have very good players that are good on transition, we know in the last 89th minute we conceded from transition, so we have to be very wary in terms of our defence, in terms of when we trying to put pressure on them, when we are trying to create chances to score that we don’t lose concentration and concede a goal on the counter attack.

So our approach to the game is very clear, we need three goals to qualify, but we have worked the whole week and said let us score four goals to qualify and make sure we protect our goal not to concede and we will do so.”

He concluded: “It is a game we have planned for since returning from Egypt, and I would love to see us score two in the first half, and to score even more but there are those questions we are asking ourselves, are we going to put four strikers and leave our defense line vulnerable, how are we going to create those chances and which areas are we targeting?”

Simba are the only Tanzanian club in CAF inter-club competitions after their rivals Young Africans (Yanga SC) were eliminated from the CAF Champions League in group stages.
