Simba SC Media Officer Ahmed Ally has outlined the team’s vision to go past the quarter-finals of the Caf Confederation Cup this season.
The Msimbazi Reds are in the last eight of the competition where they have been drawn to face Egyptian outfit Al Masry in the two-legged affair. The first leg is set for Wednesday, 2 April at New Suez Stadium before Simba return home to host the second leg on April 9.
“The squad will leave the country in the morning of the 28th to go to Egypt using Egypt Air plane. Our players, who were with Taifa Stars for World Cup qualifiers will join the team in Egypt. Camara and Mukwala have already arrived in the country to join their fellow players for the preparations of the journey,” Ally told Pan-Africa Football on the team’s readiness for the away fixture.
“Every Simba fan should know that together with the plans we have, but we must prepare, we must prepare and especially if the team itself is from Egypt. If you look at how the African championship is, you will see Egypt is the country that got four teams into the quarter-finals.
“We are going to play with Al Masry knowing that we are going to play a really tough match but the determination we have set for ourselves is to qualify for the semi-finals.”
Ally remains optimistic that their return leg battle will be staged at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium: “Let me remove fear of fans that Benjamin Mkapa has been inspected. Answers are yet to come but we are in talks, and there are huge improvements to the field from the last time it was inspected by the Caf team.
“So there is a bigger chance of playing on the field. And you all remember the statement of the Prime Minister of the Government of Tanzania that the field is ready. We don't have time to wait, we are preparing with single focus on the next stage of the competition.”
On the fitness of Che Marone, Ally said: “The news about our player Che Malone is that he is currently in Morocco undergoing treatment and later our doctors will inform us when he will be available to return to the field to continue with his duties.”
Before Al Ahly, Simba will face lower division side Bigman in the round of 32 fixture of the domestic Federaiton Cup at KMC Stadium on Thursday.
