Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has emphasized the fact that they want to beat CS Constantine and top their group in the Caf Confederation Cup.
The Tanzanian Premier League giants have already qualified for the knock out stages of the competition but can finish at the top if they manage to beat Constantine, who are currently topping the group, during their final Group A fixture scheduled for Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
Simba’s 1-1 against Angola's Bravos do Maquis enabled them to qualify but according to the South African coach, they still have a mission to lead the log.
“We had a goal to qualify early, and now we have succeeded. But there is still one important thing: to finish at the top of our group,” Davids said as quoted by the Guardian.
“The match against CS Constantine is very important to us; it is a match to get three points that will put us at the top of the group. It will be a tough match because CS Constantine is a good team and they know how to play big matches.
“We have taken the pressure off because we have already qualified, the players have done the job to qualify and the cherry of it all is to top the group at the end . Constantine have good experience, they are difficult to break down, they are very tough in the low block, but we will do our best to win the top position battle.”
However, Simba will have to navigate the fixture minus their vocal fans after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposed a one-match ban on their fans and a $40,000 fine (approximately Tsh. 100,000,000).
Davids has admitted it will be disappointing for the team to play without their fans. “CAF’s decision is unfair because CS Sfaxien were the ones who started the trouble. I’m not saying we responded well, but it’s disappointing,” he said.
“It’s disappointing to play without fans. They push us to the limit, helping us stay aggressive even when we are down. However, we will be happy to have them back during the quarterfinals.”
