Simba SC players led by goal scorers Denis Kibu and Leonel Ateba have revealed their happiness at finishing at the top of Group A following their 2-0 win against CS Constantine in their final CAF Confederation Cup group stage fixture on Sunday.
In the Group A fixture at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, the Tanzanian Premier League outfit scored through Kibu and Ateba to leapfrog Constantine, who were topping the pile heading into the final game.
What the players said;
Yusuph Kagoma: “Every team wanted to win and top the group and I can tell you it was not an easy game, we came into the game wanting to win and top it, we fought as a team, we gave it all and secured the most important win,” Kagoma told Pan-Africa Football.
“We all wanted to qualify and when we qualified (with a game to spare), we found ourselves needing to win the last game to top the group, so we have managed that and now we look ahead to the quarter-finals draw.”
Fabrice Ngoma: “Today, we all wanted to win this game, to finish at the top and we have achieved it. I am not happy to play without fans, I like to play with fans to push the team, we played without fans and it was not good, fans please respect your players, and I thank you for the way you support us always and hope to see you again in the next game.”
Leonel Ateba: “We are very happy to finish at the top and we know we have another huge test coming up, playing in the quarter-finals, we had a mission (against Constantine), and the coach told us to push and win to help us get the top spot, I congratulate all my teammates for the achievement.”
Elie Mpanzu: “I am very happy we sealed a quarter-final spot by winning the group, our group was not easy, we had to play and fight for each other.”
Denis Kibu: “We got the result we wanted, we wanted to top the group and we have done it, it was one of our missions, to finish at the top, we played against a tough team, they beat us away, and we have worked hard to earn revenge, we want now to focus on the next stage, we want to prepare and wait to see, whom we face in the quarters.”
