Simba SC captain Mohamed Hussein has remained confident they will beat Stellenbosch away during their return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup on Friday.
A first-half stoppage-time goal from Jean Charles Ahoua’s 30-yard low free kick earned the Mzimbazi Reds the semi-final win. However, the goal had to be decided by VAR after a brief check, giving Simba the edge heading into the second leg, set for April 27 in South Africa.
“On behalf of the players, we thank our fans and everybody, who supported us before and during this game, it was a game we wanted to get a good result, more than one goal, but we have worked hard to get a 1-0 scoreline , but this is Simba, Simba roars everywhere, we are ready to go and roar in South Africa,” Hussein told Pan-Africa Football.
“We are heading to South Africa with one mission, to roar and get the final ticket, we don’t have any other mission, Simba is a big club and we can win home and away, so we don’t fear anything, our mission is set for South Africa.”
On his part, Simba Media Officer Ahmed Ally explained why they deserved to celebrate the win. “We have to celebrate what we managed to get today, people should know this is the semi-final stage, and don’t expect at this stage to play against weak opponents,” Ally told Pan-Africa Football.
“They should further not expect to score more goals easily, beat someone like five goals, six goals, four goals, those four teams in the semis are the best in the competition currently in Africa, so no one is easy to beat, and a win is a win, at this stage, there is no slim win, or big win, it remains that you have a very important win for your team.
“We have already put one leg in the final, we are very close to the final than Stellenbosch because of the 1-0 win, because we have the crucial one goal, it is something to be proud of heading to the return leg after the 90 minutes of today’s game, we have a 1-0 win, and our opponent has returned home with nothing from the game apart from the advantage of going to play at home in the return leg.”
This was the first time Simba was playing in the semis of the inter-club competition after eliminating Al Masry of Egypt on penalties in the quarter-finals while Stellenbosch reached the stage following a 1-0 aggregate scoreline against Zamalek of Egypt.
