Congolese giants TP Mazembe appeared set for a crucial victory in Group A of the CAF Champions League but Tanzania's Young Africans stole a precious point in Lubumbashi with a 1-1 draw. Prince Dube turned in from a rebound in the final seconds to cancel out the opening goal from Mazembe's Cheick Fofana, giving Yanga their first point in the group stage. TP Mazembe now have two points in a result that is a huge blow to their chances of reaching the quarterfinals.
Similarly to last weekend's 2-1 defeat to Al-Hilal in Mauritania, it was another even match for hosts Mazembe with both teams lacking efficiency in the attack. The hosts relied on their strong defense and Yanga paid the price in the 41st minute when a cross from Johnson Atibu found Fofana for a header that hit the post and just crossed over the line before the Yanga defense cleared the ball.
In a match that was anticipated to be low scoring, Fofana's goal appeared to be the decisive moment for the hosts who otherwise continued to lack the offensive punch. However it was the visitors from Tanzania, desperate for a positive result, who found the answer in the final seconds when a long range shot was saved by Mazembe goalkeeper Alioune Bady right into the path of Dube for the Zimbabwean to fire in.
