CR Belouizdad head coach Abdelkader Amrani has blamed the team’s 2-1 defeat against Orlando Pirates in their Caf Champions League Group C fixture to poor officiating.

The Algerian outfit suffered a setback in their quest to qualify for the knock out stages of the lucrative competition following the defeat at Orlando Stadium. Relebohile Mofokeng opened the scoring for Pirates after 20 minutes before Thalente Mbatha secured the result with his goal after 61 minutes, despite a late consolation from Abdelroauf Benguit.

“I believe we missed to equalize in the first half and in the second we missed an opportunity to equalize but overall the refereeing was not up to scratch, it was not fair officiating, there were a lot of mistakes that the referee missed, so the game was not good at all,” Amrani told SuperSport TV after the game.

“I believe that the referee could have done much better to make sure that the game was balanced but at the same time we missed to attack also to build on the game, but I am not saying the home team was not good, they did deserve to go through but at the same time what the ball boys were doing, every three minutes that was not good at all.”

The defeat left Belouizdad third in the group with six points while Pirates stayed top on 11 points and qualifying alongside African champions Al Ahly, who have 10 points.
