Young Egyptian club Pyramids FC have qualified for the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League after a late Marwan Hamdi goal secured a 1-0 victory over Angolan club Sagrada in Luanda on Saturday. Hamdi's finish deflected into the goal after an excellent assist from Sodiq Awujoola, moving Pyramids beyond reach of third placed Sagrada in Group D.
The match was close with few opportunities for either team as Sagrada focused on keeping favorites Pyramids from finding the goal. The visitors from Egypt had a couple of opportunities but no clear chances to test Sagrada goalkeeper Nsesani.
Following a drab first half, hosts Sagrada attempted to show more ambition but just did not have the ability to challenge the Pyramids defense. With the match heading towards a scoreless draw, Nigerian forward Awujoola provided the moment that made the difference in second half stoppage time with his mazy run and assist to Hamdi who fired in past Nsesani.
