Algeria's MC Alger ended a run of three matches without a goal in their 2-0 CAF Champions League victory over Tanzanian club Young Africans in Algiers on Saturday evening. Captain Ayoub Abdellaoui headed the hosts ahead in the second half before Soufiane Bayazid confirmed victory in the final seconds to move MCA to the top of Group A for now. Young Africans are in trouble with two defeats in two matches.
Following a poor 2-0 defeat at home to Al-Hilal in their opening match, Yanga did well to manage the first half against hosts MCA and kept the ball well for stretches. It took until the end of the first half for the club from Algeria to create danger when striker Andy Delort found room outside the penalty area and fired over the goal of Yanga keeper Djigui Diarra.
The pressure began to take its toll on the visitors after halftime who could not create shooting opportunities. MCA came close soon after the break but it was Abdellaoui who gave his team the lead in the 64th minute with a brilliant flick header from a free kick service by Mohamed Halaimia.
Yanga increased their efforts but it was a frustrating day for the Tanzanian club's attack who could not find the crucial final ball. Victory was confirmed for MCA at the end of stoppage time when Bayazid beat Diarra to a bouncing ball and flicked it over the goalkeeper before applying the final touch close to the goal line.
