Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph Kamwendo says the Buccaneers can beat Pyramids FC in Egypt on Friday, April 25, 2025, in the CAF Champions League semifinal, second leg match, but they wasted a home advantage last week.

The former Malawian international told Pan-Africa Football that Jose Riveiro’s side’s unbeaten run in the CAF Champions League proves they can deliver the goods at home and away.

“They are unbeaten until today. If you check, you will find out that they won away against a team from Algeria. It shows they are a good team that can go anywhere and get a result,” he said.

However, Malawi’s Creck Sporting Club coach hastened to note that the Soweto giants could have made life easier for themselves with a win over Pyramids in South Africa on April 19, 2025. The CAF Champions League semifinal, first leg ended goalless.

“They missed a big opportunity. They could have at least scored one or two goals and taken it to Egypt. It won’t be easy, but they can do it,” added Kamwendo, who spent three seasons with Pirates from 2207 playing 34 games in all competitions.

The Soweto giants are unbeaten in six CAF Champions League matches, including four wins and two draws. The wins include 2-1 over hosts Al Ahly in Cairo and 1-0 over MC Alger 1-0.
