Retired South African player Benedict Vilakazi has called on the club to walk proud despite their elimination from the CAF Champions League at the semi-final stage by Pyramids FC of Egypt on Friday.

After a 0-0 outcome from the first leg at FNB Stadium, Pirates suffered a 3-2 defeat in the return leg to bow out of the inter-club competition. However, according to Vilakazi, who played for South Africa at the 2006 African Nations Cup (AFCON) in Egypt, Pirates and especially young players Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota, should feel proud of themselves for reaching the last four stage.

“Our two young boys Mofokeng and Nkota they made us proud,” said Tso on iDiski TV. “They did very well. They should be proud of themselves. It wasn’t an easy journey for them to get to the semi-finals. I mean they played against the best. Pyramids is not an easy team they are number one in the Egyptian league.

“The way they have played for me it’s more than enough they should be proud of themselves. The good thing is that they got experience. When they come back next season, they’ve got more experience and understand better what it takes to play in the Champions League.

“And I’m saying to the boys, walk tall you did wonders, you managed to get to this stage you should be proud.”

Pirates will shift focus to beating Mamelodi Sundowns to the Betway Premiership title and defending the domestic Nedbank Cup where they are scheduled to face Kaizer Chiefs in the final on May 10.
