Espérance Sportive de Tunis head coach Maher Kanzari has explained why facing Mamelodi Sundowns in their CAF Champions League fixture will be a tall order for his side.
The Tunisian giants will take on the Brazilians in the first leg quarter-final clash of the inter-club competition at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday, before the returning leg scheduled for 8 April at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi in Tunis.
“The two teams are both among the biggest teams in Africa, in two legs, we will try… I know that both teams are playing for the win, but tomorrow (Tuesday) we will do our best for a result and I guess we will then finish the job at home,” Kanzari said ahead of the game as quoted by idiskitimes.
On his part, Espérance and Champions League winner Ayman Ben Mohamed echoed his coach’s sentiments saying: “It’s a big game, Sundowns is a very good club, we know, they have a lot of quality, it’s going to be a difficult game so we’re preparing the best we can and we’re hoping to get a positive result to make it easier for ourselves in the return leg.”
Both teams will head into the clash sitting top of their respective leagues. Sundowns are leading the Betway Premiership on 58 points from 23 matches.
Meanwhile, Espérance have garnered 53 points from 15 wins, eight draws and two defeats to take control of the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1.
