South Africa's UWC Ladies are back in contention at the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League following a 2-0 victory over Aigles de la Médina of Senegal to begin the second round of matches from Group A. Molatelo Kobo opened the scoring early in the second half before Ntombifikile Ndlovu put uDubs out of reach to give the Western Cape side their first three points at the competition.
The COSAFA region champions struggled to create danger in their opening match against DR Congo's TP Mazembe but promising signs emerged as they controlled the first half on Tuesday. Forward Khanya Xesi got behind Les Aigles defense in the 11th minute but her shot was not powerful enough to test the goalkeeper. Xesi cleverly set up Tiffany Kortjie in the 27th minute but her effort was tame and easily handled.
But UWC's dominance was confirmed soon after the halftime break and it was the substitute Kobo who found the net with a low finish after getting on the end of a cross from the left wing. The SAFA Women's League club continued to control the match and doubled their lead in the 66th minute. Gugu Zondi won the ball in the midfield and her cross from the right wing was temporarily cleared but an opportunity opened up for Ndlovu whose precise strike looped over the goalkeeper and into the net.
UWC Ladies have a difficult task ahead with Group A favorites AS FAR of Morocco awaiting in their final match on Friday. Aigles de la Médina may be eliminated depending on the result of the second match today before they face TP Mazembe in their final match.
