Cape Town City interim coach Muhsin Ertugral has challenged his team to produce the momentum they always do when playing against ‘big teams’ in the Betway Premiership against all teams in the top-flight if they are to finish in a respectable position this campaign.

According to the Turkish gaffer, the Citizens have always been dangerous when playing against ‘big teams’ but they drop their game when facing the other teams in the league. He gave a good example of their game against Orlando Pirates, which he said they should have won because of the way they played.

During the fixture at Orlando Stadium, Pirates came from a goal down to win 2-1 courtesy of two second half goals. Cape Town then came up against AmaZulu in a game they lost 2-0 at King Zwelithini Stadium.

“When we play against big teams we are very dangerous and we should have won the game against Pirates last week, and we want to have a playing momentum against the equal teams,” Ertugral told the media as quoted by Sowetan.

“I came in now at the wrong time, in the year 2024, a full calendar year, this team only had seven victories. Most people have forgotten about it, which means there is a problem in away games.

“And coming in now from January and working very hard, the away games record is still a problem. There is also a physiological aspect, but we also have certain demands on us and the players. Performance at home is very good but something I have to improve is the away form.”

They are currently lying 10th on the 16-team league table with 21 points accumulated from six wins, three draws and 11 defeats. The Citizens, who have not won in seven matches across all competitions, will return to action with a fixture against TS Galaxy at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday.
