Kaizer Chiefs skipper Yusuf Maart says the South African giants welcome Cape Town City at FNB Stadium in a Betway Premiership match on Wednesday motivated by the loss suffered to the Citizens on the road.
Maart told Chiefs media that the players have done their homework and expect another tricky game against City who beat the Soweto giants in Cape Town in interim coach Muhsin Etrugral’s second game in charge.
The AmaKhosi midfielder said they hope to build on their hard-fought, somewhat controversial 3-1 win over Stellenbosch FC in a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal last Saturday.
“The win on Saturday gives us confidence, and I want to thank the fans for the amazing support they gave us in Gqeberha. We are aware that City beat us last time we played them so we are extra motivated to go there and put the effort in to win,” he said.
The midfielder, who came off the bench in the last game against Stellenbosch, further highlighted tactical aspects that make City a difficult opponent.
“It’s not easy to prepare for a team like City because they can play different styles of football, but we do know they like to run. For us, as a team, it is more about executing the coach’s instructions on how we should play,” Maart added.
A win over City would see coach Nasreddine Nabi’s team leapfrog AmaZulu FC, who lost 2-0 to leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, into sixth place.
The Citizens, on the other hand, lie in 10th place on the edge of the relegation zone having gone six games winless across all competitions.
