Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Mardoso says his South African team needs more time to grow after beating Raja Casablanca 1-0 in Pretoria on Sunday for a first win of the CAF Champions’ League group stages.

In a post-match interview with South African Broadcasting Corporation, the former Esperance trainer insisted that the Betway Premiership holders need to improve.

“We were more comfortable but there is still a lot to go. This will be a very open group; a very tough one. We know our responsibility but we know how tough it will be, so today was important emotionally. It was very tough to manage. I felt a little bit anxious. We need to grow,” he said.

“I am happy for the commitment. That is the base for that growth. Our sky is the only limit. Hard work can pay off but we need to grow. Not everything was perfect, maybe at times we could have done better. We need more time but more time is about winning.”

Iqraam Rayners scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute at Versfeld Loftus Stadium for Sundowns to go level with Group B leaders AS FAR on five points from three games and make it a winning start for the Portuguese who replaced Manqoba Mngqithi during the week.

Mngqithi had presided over a goalless draw with Maniema Union and 1-1 with AS FAR, which cost Mngqithi the job.
