The Tunisian Football Federation’s negotiations with Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz to be the next national team head coach have ended in failure.

Queiroz, who arrived in Tunisia last week alongside his agent to negotiate terms, was unable to reach an agreement with the federation. According to a report, Tunisian president Kais Saied expressed concerns over the substantial salary Queiroz was expected to receive in foreign currency, which appear to have complicated negotiations beyond repair.

With elections for the Tunisian Football Federation scheduled to take place later this month, it now seems logical that the decision to appoint a new head coach will be left to the incoming administration.

Kais Yaakoubi served as the interim head coach in the recent period, following Faouzi Benzarti's departure. Under Yaakoubi's leadership, Tunisia secured their qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Madagascar in the fifth round of qualifiers.
