The UEFA Champions League kicked off the Round of 32 stage on Tuesday and it was a productive day for Morocco's representatives as well as Guinea national team star Serhou Guirassy. The Syli National star is now the sole leading scorer in the Champions League after taking his tally to ten goals.
In the headline clash of the day, Real Madrid came back to defeat Manchester City by a 3-2 score away from home put Los Merengues in an excellent position for the second leg back home.
City hitman Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the first half before Kylian Mbappé leveled for the visitors on the hour mark. After Haaland put City back in front the stage was set for Morocco star Brahim Diaz to equalize only two minutes after coming on as a substitute. The 25-year-old was in the right place to fire in against his former club after Vinicius Junior's initial effort was spilled by City goalkeeper Ederson.
Jude Bellingham scored the late winner in stoppage time to complete a remarkable turnaround ahead of the second leg in Madrid.
Guirassy and Dortmund have been struggling in domestic league play but they maintained their strong form in the Champions League with a 3-0 first leg victory at Portugal's Sporting CP. Following a goalless first half, Guirassy produced a perfect looping header from Julian Brandt's cross to put the visitors in front.
The in form striker was not done. Guirassy turned provider for Dortmund's second goal with a whipped cross that found Pascal Gross to double the lead for last season's runners-up. Dortmund found another goal late from Karim Adeyemi to put themselves in a dominant position after the first leg.
Earlier in the day, Paris Saint-Germain established a strong lead against fellow Ligue 1 side Brest by winning 3-0 away from home. After Vitinha opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Morocco star Achraf Hakimi laid off a pass to Ousmane Dembélé who did the rest to make it 2-0. Dembele then added another to complete a dominant victory.
Hakimi now has four assists in Champions League play and nine overall this season. Guirassy has ten goals, the most in the competition, as well as thirteen goal contributions leaving him level with Barcelona attacker Raphinha at the top of the charts.
