The draw for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 was conducted today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The tournament, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, is scheduled to take place in August 2025, marking the eighth edition of the finals and the first time the competition returns to East Africa since Rwanda hosted in 2016.
The draw revealed four groups, with three groups featuring five teams each, and the fourth group comprising four teams, bringing the total number of teams to 19.
Currently, 17 teams have secured their spots in the competition. The remaining two spots will be determined through qualification playoffs involving seven nations: Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Gambia, Malawi, Gabon, and South Africa.
Tournament Highlights
This marks the first time CHAN will be co-hosted by three nations: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The exact start date for the tournament in August 2025 will be announced by CAF in the coming months.
The competition showcases the local players across Africa as it is exclusive to players competing in the domestic leagues of the participating nations.
