CHAN 2024: “It will be premature to say these are the best players we have in Ghana at the moment” – Didi Dramani

Ghana’s home based senior national team posted a lackluster performance at home to Nigeria in the first leg of the 2024 Championship for Africa Nations qualifiers.

The rivals clashed at the almost empty Accra Spots Stadium on Sunday evening, in a game that lucked much energy and equally produced no goals. Head coach of Ghana, Mas Ud Didi Dramani in a question posed by Pan-Africa Football’s Adamu Muftawu after the game, stressed that, he selected the players based on the game at hand.

“The point is that, it is not possible to have every player and it is not also possible that every player will look like the same person. Every player has different qualities and we look at what we want to do and we look at what we have created in terms of style of play, and we look at who can fit in at that material moment,” Mas Didi Dramni told Pan-Africa Football.

“So in your face, this player might be better than the other one and in other one’s face that fits into what he wants to do. And so it is all about the programme of the institution that is in place that makes you feel that player A is fitting in and player B is not fitting in but that doesn’t mean player B is rated above the other player.

“It will be premature to say that, these are the only materials that we have or these are the best players that we have but as for what we are doing, we are playing only one game and if we are playing a two legged game, what else would you do rather than sieve and prune the number down to a more appreciable level to get the game.”

The return leg is set to be hosted at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on the 28th of December, with the winner of both legs qualifying for the main tournament in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania next year.
