Nigerians are still celebrating their enviable feat of beating bitter rivals Ghana to qualify for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament. The home-based Super Eagles wove their way to the tournament following a two legged aggregate victory over the Black Galaxies.
A goalless draw in Accra before a sweet 3-1 victory at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo confirmed Nigeria’s spot for the tournament reserved for players who ply their careers solely for domestic clubs.

Nigeria assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede reveals what the qualification means to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the home-based players.
“This is Nigeria we are talking about and for obvious reasons, a giant of Africa,” Ogunmodede told Pan-Africa Football.
“We know how important it is for our local players and for our league, for what our federation and the sports commission is trying to build. We know how important it is for our players that are coming up for both present and the future, how important it is for them."
“Even we as coaches. I’m also an indigenous coach, don’t forget, and it is important to know that we trying to go one step ahead of what we are the last time as a country and as a federation. So we qualifying will ad more value to our league, to our players’ credibility and growth.” Daniel Ogunmodede told Pan-Africa Football.
Nigeria’s qualification for the 2024 CHAN tournament in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will see them participate following a six-year absence from the competition.
