Ethiopia 'A' side head coach Mesay Teferi believes his charges can replicate the strong performances seen November against Sudan in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier game this weekend. After a poor 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Ethiopia finished on a positive note with a victory against DR Congo and many of the players involved are in camp for CHAN qualifying.

Prior to heading to Libya, Teferi gave a press conference at the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) head quarter on Thursday as he summed up his side's preparation. "We had a few injury concerns and we lost some key players. Chernet Gugesa is out and we replaced him. Some players are out after the DR Congo match too. We worked more on our defense and attack. Especially we worked more on set pieces. We saw improvements from our training sessions," Teferi stressed.

Teferi further added the Sudan encounter won't be easy. "We saw their CHAN qualifying (first round) game against Tanzania. I personally watched their games in the World Cup qualifier ties. They are strong so we will be ready mentally to qualify. The win over Congo will give us an extra motivation."

Ethiopia will play both legs in Benghazi with the first leg set for Sunday, December 22 followed by the second leg on December 25. Ethiopia qualified for the most recent edition of the CHAN in 2022 in Algeria where they bowed out of the tournament following the group stage.
