Senegal 'A' side coach Souleymane Diallo complimented his charges for progressing to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at the expense of Liberia on Saturday. The reigning champions beat Liberia 3-0 at home to secure a 4-1 aggregate victory.
In his post match interview, Diallo asserted that his team started strong from the onset. "The boys executed our strategy perfectly. I spoke to the boys on the importance of starting strong and putting the opponent under pressure from the beginning. It paid off."
Diallo also said the opening goal helped Senegal to get more spaces in the away end. According to the coach his charges exploited the space created by the visitors. "We knew that the opposing team would react and leave spaces. The objective was to capitalize on these opportunities by working on our offensive transitions. Although our recoveries were sometimes were not good, the players knew how to manage the opponent's strong moments."
Diallo is optimistic on the future of Senegalese football. "This group is in full training. The majority of players are new to this level. CHAN is an ideal opportunity to prepare some of them for major events such as the U-20 AFCON."
Senegal now sets eye on defending their title in CHAN 2024 set to take place in the East African nations of Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya in February.
