Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2024 Championship for African Nations still rankles in the minds of a few football fans and the principal actors and one of the lot is, Black Galaxies defender, Razak Simpson.
Ghana missed out on the tournament after crumbling under the jackboots of sworn rivals, Nigeria in a two legged qualifier. The first fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium finished goalless with the return leg producing a 3-1 win for the home based Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The Nations FC central defender who captained the Galaxies, attributed Ghana's failure to qualify for the 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) to bad luck rather than tactical shortcomings.
Simpson defended Black Galaxies head coach Didi Dramani, stating that he had his tactics right, but luck was not on their side.
"Everything was fine. We were just unlucky. Our coach Didi Dramani had his tactics and everything right, but luck eluded us," Simpson said in an interview with Kessben FM.
The Black Galaxies were aiming to qualify for the second consecutive edition of the CHAN tournament, but Nigeria secured the coveted spot instead.
The tournament, set to be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, was to come up in February but the Confederation of African Football has since been forced to postpone the competition to August due to logistical challenges in the host nations.
