The Gambia played out a goalless draw against Gabon in Senegal in the first leg of their African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying clash on Saturday. Gabon arrived late to the encounter after CAF announced the kickoff time would be pushed to early to allow the local Panthers to honor the fixture.

Local Scorpions coach Alhagie Sarr stated his charges were not affected by the conditions in Senegal. "We knew it was not going to be played in Banjul. We are used to playing games away."

Gabon put up a good fight to take home a crucial first leg result. The return leg will be played in Frnaceville next week and Sarr added it will be tough. "We have given the team feedback. We prepared them well. We know the return leg will be different. But the team is ready for that."

Gambia have never qualified for CHAN while Gabon participated three times, their last being in 2026.
